Before you start
Check whether a profile already exists for your business by searching your business name on Google Maps. If it does, claim it rather than creating a second one.
The steps
- Go to business.google.com and sign in with a Google account you will keep.
- Enter your business name exactly as it appears in real life, with no added keywords or towns.
- Choose the primary category that best describes your main service.
- Add your address, or your service area if clients do not visit you.
- Add your phone number and website.
- Verify the profile using the method Google offers.
- Complete hours, services, description and photos.
Choosing categories
Your primary category matters most. Pick the one that best matches what you are known for, then add a few relevant secondary categories.
Common mistakes
- Adding keywords or locations to the business name.
- Using a virtual office or PO box as an address.
- Leaving hours or holiday hours out of date.
- Creating duplicate profiles.
